Watching one of my favourite films from last year, Claire Denis’ melancholy and stylized science fiction film HIGH LIFE. 🎥

Watching Céline Sciamma’s naturalistic and beautiful 2011 film TOMBOY again on The Criterion Channel. 🎥

Watching Martin Scorsese’s brilliant 1993 adaptation of THE AGE OF INNOCENCE again. 🎥

Watching Bong Joon-ho’s rock-solid metaphorical masterpiece PARASITE again. 🎥

Watching Almodóvar’s beautiful 2019 film PAIN AND GLORY again in iTunes. 🎥

Watching Scott Z. Burns’ 2019 film THE REPORT on Prime. 🎥

Watching Spike Jonze’s 2002 film ADAPTATION again. 🎥

So sad to hear of the loss of the amazing Agnès Varda and happy that she was able to share her remarkable gift for storytelling with us for so long. She redefined what filmmaking could be with a radical empathy and a delightful sense of humour.

Five great films about women directed by women for #IWD2019:

JEANNE DIELMAN, 23, QUAI DU COMMERCE, 1080 BRUXELLES – Chantal Akerman

LET THE SUNSHINE IN – Claire Denis

WANDA – Barbara Loden

CERTAIN WOMEN – Kelly Reichardt

CLEO FROM 5 to 7 - Agnès Varda

Wong Kar-wai’s 1994 CHUNGKING EXPRESS is the Criterion Channel film of the week. I haven’t watched it for a while, so this week will be an excellent time to immerse myself in that stylish world again. 🎥

Watching Elaine May’s brilliant MIKEY AND NICKY again as I take advantage of my Criterion Channel charter membership. 🍿

Watching Agnès Varda’s lovely 1963 short SALUT LES CUBAINS again. A brilliant use of stills and music to create something more than the sun of the parts. 🎥

Watching the 1918 film THE DREAM LADY directed by Elsie Jane Wilson. 🍿
